Jaipur, April 19: On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, Sachin Pilot, Congress in-charge of Chhattisgarh and a prominent legislator, launched a scathing attack on both the central and state governments. Speaking at the state Congress office, he emphasized the unparalleled contribution of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to the nation and highlighted the enduring relevance of the Constitution he crafted under challenging circumstances. Pilot stressed the necessity of upholding the fundamental spirit of the Constitution, noting that its provisions are often overlooked and disrespected.
Pilot remarked that mere formal recognition of the Constitution is insufficient; its principles must be actively implemented. He urged those in power to reflect on whether their actions align with the spirit of the Constitution. He warned that actions contrary to the Constitution would be a disservice to Ambedkar’s vision.
Addressing the issue of women’s reservation, Pilot reaffirmed the Congress Party‘s longstanding support. He referenced the one-third women’s reservation bill prepared under former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi, which unfortunately did not pass. He stated that if the government wishes to implement women’s reservation now, Congress will support it, provided there are no compromises in the process.
Pilot expressed concern over the potential postponement of women’s reservation under the pretext of the delimitation commission and census. He called for an all-party meeting and a detailed discussion in Parliament on this matter. He acknowledged that delimitation could be considered based on census data, but emphasized that this should not delay decision-making.
Commenting on the situation in Rajasthan, Pilot criticized the government for the delays in panchayat and local body elections. He accused the government of intentionally postponing elections, which he believes undermines democratic institutions. He also raised concerns about the near halt of the MGNREGA scheme and administrative apathy.
Pilot voiced worries regarding law and order, particularly the safety of women in Jaipur. He urged the government to prioritize law enforcement and grant officials the autonomy to act impartially.
He concluded by stating that announcements alone are insufficient; they must be translated into action at the grassroots level. He highlighted that political interference is hampering administrative functions, which must be addressed. Regarding upcoming elections, Pilot expressed optimism, noting that heavy voting in Kerala signals change, while Assam presents a tight contest. He believes that dissatisfaction with the current regime is widespread, and people are looking for change.
