Jaipur, September 20: KC Venugopal, the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, arrived in Jaipur on Sunday, September 20. He was welcomed at the Jaipur Airport by former minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Jaipur city district Congress president Sunil Sharma, Kishanpole MLA Amin Kaghzi, and Adarsh Nagar MLA Rafiq Khan.
At the airport, Venugopal engaged in informal discussions with Congress leaders. They reviewed the recent urban body election results in Rajasthan and the party’s current position regarding the ongoing elections for mayor, chairpersons, and other leadership roles. Venugopal currently oversees organizational matters for the AICC.
Feedback on Urban Body Elections Across the State
According to sources, local leaders provided Venugopal with insights into Congress’s performance in various urban bodies across the state, including Jaipur. They discussed the status of board formations and the political dynamics surrounding the elections for municipal heads.
In the recent urban body elections in Rajasthan, the BJP emerged as the largest party at the state level, while Congress secured a strong second position in several cities and municipalities. The election of board members in many bodies now relies on the support of independent councilors, who were elected in large numbers.
Congress Active in Jaipur Mayor Elections
Despite the BJP securing a clear majority, Congress has decided to contest the mayoral election in Jaipur. The party has nominated Sunita Mavar as its candidate. Congress leaders claim they expect support from additional councilors; however, these claims cannot be independently verified before the voting.

Voting for key positions in 273 bodies, including five municipal corporations, is scheduled for September 21, while some bodies, including Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kota, will vote later due to a revised schedule.
