Amit Shah Urges Speaker to Schedule Discussion on NEET Paper Leak

New Delhi, August 12: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting a scheduled discussion in the House regarding the NEET paper leak and the related student protests. Shah stated that the government is prepared to answer all questions raised by the opposition and will be present in the House during the designated time.

In his letter, Amit Shah urged the Speaker to consult with the opposition to agree on an appropriate time, day, or hour for this discussion. He assured that he would be available to participate in the debate and respond to all queries from the opposition.

Earlier, while speaking to the media outside the House, Amit Shah emphasized that the government is ready to discuss every issue but urged the opposition to allow the House to function. He highlighted that discussions in Parliament are a crucial part of the democratic process and that the government is not shying away from addressing the issues raised by the opposition.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi responded to Shah’s statement, asserting that the opposition seeks more than just speeches; they demand answers regarding the alleged shooting of students at Jantar Mantar. Gandhi questioned who ordered the firing on the students and insisted that if the Home Minister did not give such an order, accountability must be established.

In another development, the government proposed to send the FCRA Amendment Bill, 2026, to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), which was approved by the Lok Sabha. The proposed committee will include 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha, tasked with studying the bill’s provisions and presenting its report to Parliament.

The atmosphere in Parliament remains heated due to the NEET paper leak, student protests, and the ongoing blame game between the government and the opposition. Attention now turns to when Speaker Om Birla will schedule the discussion and the nature of the debates that will unfold between the government and the opposition.
