New Delhi, July 7: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has made a significant statement regarding the alleged embezzlement of donations linked to the Ayodhya Ram Temple. He has demanded that the investigation into this matter be conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court. Additionally, he has called for the current Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust to be dissolved and a new trust to be established.
While addressing the media at the Congress headquarters in Delhi, Gehlot emphasized that the issue of donation misappropriation is extremely serious and has affected the faith of devotees. He stated that a fair investigation should be carried out by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the Supreme Court’s oversight.
Gehlot suggested to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that he should form a new trust and serve as its president. He insisted that the investigation must be completed first before establishing a new trust that includes representatives from all communities and ideologies.
The former Chief Minister accused the current trust of being predominantly composed of individuals affiliated with the RSS and BJP, lacking broader representation. He remarked that if a trust had been formed during P.V. Narasimha Rao’s tenure, incorporating diverse ideologies, the current situation could have been avoided.
Gehlot stressed that the Ram Temple is a focal point of faith for millions in the country, and therefore, transparency and accountability in its management should be of utmost priority. He urged that any negligence or suspicion of financial irregularities should be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.
He also raised concerns regarding the stones used in the temple’s construction, alleging that illegal mining activities in the Banshi Pahadpur area of Bharatpur were involved. He noted that questions about illegal mining had arisen during the construction, but adequate action was not taken at that time.
Gehlot pointed out that people across the country have generously donated in the name of the Ram Temple. Therefore, every aspect related to donations, offerings, and the trust’s operations should undergo a transparent investigation. He emphasized that this issue is not merely about financial irregularities but is also tied to public faith and trust.
He reiterated his demand for the immediate dissolution of the current trust, an investigation under the Supreme Court’s supervision, and the establishment of a new, inclusive trust after the investigation is complete. He insisted that the new trust should accommodate individuals from all communities, ideologies, and qualified persons to maintain public confidence in the temple’s management.
