Financial Dispute Behind Gruesome Killing Near Udaysagar Lake

UDAIPUR — In a significant breakthrough, Udaipur police have cracked the blind murder case of Shankarlal Dangi within 48 hours of the crime being reported. The incident, which occurred near Udaysagar Lake in the Pratapnagar area, had initially baffled law enforcement with few leads and no immediate suspects. However, swift action by multiple police teams led to the arrest of two accused—Mangilal alias Jagdish Dangi (34) and Madanlal Dangi (27)—both residents of Bhallo Ka Chhota Guda in Kurabad, Udaipur district.

According to officials, the accused were burdened by financial loans taken from the victim, Shankarlal Dangi, who allegedly demanded high-interest repayments and frequently harassed them. During interrogation, the accused admitted to planning and executing the murder out of resentment and pressure stemming from their inability to repay ₹5 lakh each.

On April 18, 2025, the duo lured the victim to Udaysagar Pal under the pretense of a social gathering. After purchasing a hammer, binding wire, chili powder, beer cans, and razor blades from various stores in Udaipur, they executed the plan. Madanlal strangled Shankarlal using wire, while Mangilal attacked his head with a hammer. They then inflicted blade injuries and smeared chili powder on the body to distort evidence.

Supervised by Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal, ASP Umesh Ojha, and Circle Officer Mahipal Singh, the investigation was spearheaded by Pratapnagar SHO Rajendra Singh Charan. Multiple teams examined over 100 CCTV feeds near the crime scene and the victim’s residence, traced mobile call details, and identified suspicious activity.
