Deepke’s Allegation: ‘Hoisting the Tricolor Has Become a Crime’

CJP founder Abhijit Deepke stated during the press conference that the government has criminalized the act of hoisting the tricolor in an effort to protect the Chief Election Commissioner. He mentioned that Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were jailed for hoisting the tricolor at Jantar Mantar and questioned why the government is shielding Gyanesh Kumar.

“The government has made hoisting the tricolor a crime to protect Gyanesh Kumar.”

What Charges Are the Spokespersons Facing?

Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, both spokespersons for CJP, were sent to five days of judicial custody by a special executive magistrate’s court on Wednesday. A third leader, Ajinkya Shinde, was released on bail. According to CJP’s legal head Ratna Singh, the leaders face three charges: entering Jantar Mantar without permission, violating bond conditions, and obstructing government work.

This bond is related to a previous incident where they attempted to protest at Jantar Mantar without authorization. They were released on a ₹50,000 bail, and now face allegations of breaching those same conditions. The Delhi police stated in court that the accused disrupted peace and violated bond terms.

Jantar Mantar No Longer a Protest Site

On October 11, the Delhi police issued Standing Order No. L&O/48/2026, de-notifying Jantar Mantar as a protest site. This order was issued by Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and is based on a recommendation from a committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The crackdown at Jantar Mantar occurred shortly after it was removed from the list of designated protest sites.

The location chosen for the October 16 protest is not one of the three designated sites for demonstrations. Protesters have previously been detained at Connaught Place.

Neha Bora: ‘Detentions and Violence Will Not Halt Our Movement’

In recent days, AISA, SFI, and KYS activists, along with CJP supporters, have been detained across various locations in Delhi. Neha Bora asserted that such actions will not stop the movement.

“Detaining people and resorting to violence will not halt our movement.”
