Tonk, July 23: In response to the alleged police crackdown during a student protest in New Delhi, Congress workers staged a demonstration in Tonk on Wednesday. The protest was organized by the rural and urban block Congress committees at Indira Circle, where they burned an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Congress activists condemned the treatment of opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. During the protest, they chanted slogans against the central government, accusing it of neglecting student interests.
Former district president Hariprasad Bairwa criticized the BJP government for its anti-people policies. He alleged that innocent students and youth were subjected to police violence, including baton charges and the use of tear gas. He stated that the actions taken against students, who were peacefully voicing their demands, would never be forgotten by the nation.
Bairwa mentioned that Congress leaders, led by Rahul Gandhi, had protested outside the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi, demanding an apology from the government. However, Rahul Gandhi and several other MPs were detained during this demonstration. He reiterated the demand for the removal of the Union Education Minister or his resignation.
The protest saw participation from various Congress officials and workers, including city block Congress committee president Irshad Beg, rural block president Kailashi Devi Meena, and many others.
