Bhopal, April 9 — As temperatures soar across central India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave alerts in 30 districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ratlam, and Narmadapuram. Daytime highs have crossed 43°C (109.4°F) in several regions, setting the stage for extreme heat conditions this week.
Heatwave Grips Central India
The rising mercury has particularly impacted cities like Ratlam, Narmadapuram, and Guna, where temperatures surged above 43°C. On Tuesday, Guna recorded the highest at 43.4°C, closely followed by Ratlam and Narmadapuram at 43.2°C. This heatwave is attributed to a combination of Western Disturbances, cyclonic circulations, and a trough extending from western Rajasthan to western Vidarbha.
The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for districts such as Ashoknagar, Mandsaur, and Neemuch, indicating severe heatwave conditions. A Yellow Alert is in effect for areas including Gwalior, Shivpuri, Damoh, Jabalpur, and Ujjain, warning residents to take necessary precautions.
Relief Expected After April 11
According to weather forecasts, the current heatwave pattern will persist until April 10, with isolated rainfall and thunderstorms offering minor relief in some areas. From April 11 to 12, weather models predict cloud cover and light showers across parts of the state, potentially easing the scorching temperatures.
On Tuesday, isolated showers were recorded in Chhindwara, Betul, Dindori, and Pandhurna, breaking the intense dry spell. However, most regions still reported extremely high temperatures:
