OpenAI Launches Image Library in ChatGPT for Easier Access, Editing, and Sharing

OpenAI has introduced a new image library feature within ChatGPT, offering users a centralized place to view and manage all their AI-generated images. This update, announced on April 15, 2025, is being rolled out to all ChatGPT users, including Free, Plus, and Pro subscribers, across the web, desktop, and mobile platforms.

What Is the New ChatGPT Image Library?

The ChatGPT image library is designed to streamline access to visual content created using OpenAI’s image generation tools like GPT-4o. It provides users a clean, organized interface to browse, revisit, and edit their generated images without digging through past chats.

The feature is now live on chat.openai.com, desktop apps, and mobile apps. It can be accessed through the “Library” tab located in the left-hand sidebar.

Easy Access and Navigation: Tap or click on an image to enlarge it and access multiple options such as:
- Edit: Opens the image in a new chat to refine or recreate based on prompts.
- Select: Highlights specific parts of the image to make targeted edits.
- Save: Downloads the image directly to the user’s device.
- Share: Sends the image via connected third-party apps or services.
Inline Editing: The Select tool allows fine control over individual elements, making the editing experience more customizable. Users can resize the selection area, and undo/redo changes as needed.

Things to Keep in Mind

DALL·E-Generated Images Not Included: The library only supports images created using GPT-4o. Older images generated with DALL·E will not appear.

No Individual Image Deletion: Users cannot delete a single image from the library. To remove an image, they must delete the entire conversation it was generated in.
- On web, hover over the conversation title > click three dots > Delete.
- On mobile, press and hold the conversation title > tap Delete from the menu.
Create New Images: The “Make Image” button at the bottom of the library allows users to quickly return to the image generation interface.
