Panther Attacks and Kills Watchman in Udaipur Village

UDAIPUR, March 1: A tragic incident occurred late Friday night in Upli Badi village, adjacent to the Sajjangarh Sanctuary, where a panther attacked and killed a young watchman. The victim, Bablu Gameti, was employed at a nearby farmhouse and was sleeping in the open area when the attack took place.

Witnesses report that the panther dragged Bablu approximately 100 meters into the bushes, where it consumed a significant portion of his leg. The attack has instilled fear among the villagers, as evidence suggests that the panther was responsible. Canine marks were found on the victim’s neck, leading authorities to believe it was indeed a panther attack.

Ajay Chittora, the District Forest Officer, stated that the initial findings indicate a leopard was involved. However, a definitive conclusion will only be reached after a post-mortem examination. The incident occurred about two kilometers from the sanctuary, raising concerns that the panther may have migrated from the protected area.

In response to the attack, forest officials have set traps in all potential locations to capture the panther. Madan Pandit, the outgoing village head and administrator, confirmed the identity of the deceased and expressed the growing anxiety among residents regarding the panther’s presence in the area. The community has been on high alert due to the recent sightings of the panther, which poses a significant threat to local safety.
