Due to its low magnitude and depth, the tremor was not widely felt by the population, and authorities have confirmed no damage to property or life.

Stronger Quake in Afghanistan Felt Across Kashmir Valley

Earlier the same morning, a stronger 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck northeast of Kabul, Afghanistan, around 4:43 AM IST. The epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush region at a depth of 75 kilometers, with coordinates 35.83°N latitude and 70.60°E longitude.

The tremors from this earthquake were felt across the Kashmir Valley and parts of Jammu, including Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, and Sopore. Several residents took to social media to report that moderate shaking lasted a few seconds, waking many from sleep.

No Reports of Casualties or Damage

Despite the tremors, no injuries or damage have been reported from either the local Kishtwar quake or the regional Afghan tremor. The authorities continue to monitor the situation, and local disaster management teams remain on alert.

Seismologists Warn of Continued Activity

Experts note that the Hindu Kush region is seismically active, and such tremors are not unusual. However, residents are advised to stay informed and follow earthquake safety protocols in case of stronger aftershocks.
