Madhya Pradesh Monsoon Update: With the onset of the monsoon, several regions across Madhya Pradesh are now experiencing intense rainfall. Continuous downpours over the past few days have led to flooding on roads, waterlogging in towns and villages, and significant disruptions to normal life.

Farmers — especially those growing vegetables — are facing major crop losses as fields remain submerged. In regions such as Gwalior and Chambal, while the rains have brought some respite from the scorching heat, the challenges of waterlogging and transportation delays persist.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued a heavy rain warning for large parts of the state over the next 24 hours, urging residents and travellers to remain cautious.
Districts on Alert for Heavy Rain
According to IMD forecasts, the following areas could witness torrential rain and strong winds in the coming hours:
-
Gwalior, Chambal, Sagar, Rewa divisions — alert for very heavy rainfall
-
Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain, Jabalpur — heavy rain warnings in place
-
Other districts under alert: Khajuraho, Sagar, Chhindwara, Dhar, Guna, Narmadapuram, Damoh, Mandla, Naugaon, Umaria, Balaghat
Rainfall in several locations has already exceeded 3 inches on Saturday alone, resulting in cooler temperatures and relief from the summer heat. However, in many areas, strong winds are expected to continue — further compounding the risk of falling branches and disruption to travel.
Rain Alert Valid Through June 26
The IMD notes that an active low-pressure area and trough system are currently influencing the region. As a result, heavy rainfall is likely to continue through June 26, especially in parts of North and East Madhya Pradesh.
Residents in flood-prone areas and farmers have been advised to remain alert, with warnings of potential waterlogging and localised flooding. Travellers should also exercise caution as the rains could disrupt transportation routes.
According to reports, Guna recorded the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours at 66.7 mm, while Shivpuri recorded the lowest at 45 mm.
As monsoon activity continues to strengthen across Madhya Pradesh, locals are being urged to stay updated with official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions during this period of heavy rainfall.
