Resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Accepted, Prahlad Joshi Takes Over Additional Charge

New Delhi, July 26: Central Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his position on Saturday. President Droupadi Murmu accepted his resignation with immediate effect upon the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following this, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has been assigned additional responsibility for the Ministry of Education alongside his current departments.

The demand for Pradhan’s resignation was driven by student and youth protests led by the Cockroach People’s Party, which had been ongoing for 36 days at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The primary issue of the movement was the alleged leak of the NEET exam paper and the need for transparency and accountability in competitive examinations.

A government statement released on Saturday night confirmed that the President accepted Pradhan’s resignation under Article 75(2) of the Constitution. On the Prime Minister’s advice, Prahlad Joshi has taken on the responsibilities of the Ministry of Education in addition to his existing roles.

Currently, Joshi serves as the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Renewable Energy. He will now oversee the Ministry of Education along with his other departments.

After receiving this new responsibility, Joshi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and stated that he would strive to meet the expectations of this role. He emphasized the significant reforms that have taken place in the country’s education system over recent years and committed to advancing these improvements.

Following the announcement of Pradhan’s resignation, protesting students at Jantar Mantar celebrated. Subsequently, an agreement was reached between the government and representatives of the protesting organization, leading the Cockroach People’s Party to announce the end of their movement.

Joshi now faces the significant challenge of restoring the credibility of the examination system, preventing paper leaks, developing a technology-based examination framework, and rebuilding students’ trust.
