Special Precautions Urged for Elderly, Pregnant Women, and Children
Udaipur, INDIA As temperatures continue to soar across Rajasthan, the Udaipur Health Department has issued a public advisory urging citizens to take necessary precautions to avoid heatstroke and related illnesses. The department emphasized that elderly individuals, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses are particularly vulnerable during this extreme weather and must be protected.

The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Udaipur directed all primary health centers and hospitals in the district to be fully prepared to handle cases of heatstroke. Emergency medications, clean drinking water, and rapid-response medical support must be available at all times to treat those affected by heat exhaustion.
Recognize and Respond to Heatstroke Symptoms
Officials warned that prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to dehydration, salt loss, and potentially life-threatening conditions like heatstroke. Symptoms may include dizziness, nausea, headaches, muscle weakness, and even loss of consciousness.
“In such cases, move the person to a shaded and ventilated area immediately. Loosen their clothing, offer fluids like ORS or raw mango juice, and seek medical attention without delay,” said the CMHO.
Avoid Outdoor Exposure During Peak Heat Hours
The Deputy Chief Medical Officer provided a list of preventive measures for the general public:
-
Avoid stepping out between 12 PM and 4 PM unless absolutely necessary.
-
Cover the body completely using lightweight, cotton clothing in light colors.
-
Wear sunglasses and use umbrellas when going outdoors.
-
Drink plenty of fluids, including lemon water, coconut water, and fresh fruit juices.
-
Never leave home on an empty stomach and avoid crowded or poorly ventilated spaces.
-
Keep the neck and head covered when in direct sunlight.
These steps, the department said, can significantly reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses and protect the most vulnerable members of the community during peak summer months.
