Jaipur, March 29: The election process for the Youth Congress in the state has commenced, but it appears to be more about political power and financial resources than organizational procedure. The candidates emerging in this election are those with significant support and the ability to spend.
This time, a provision requiring a deposit of ₹75 per vote has sparked controversy. The BJP has accused Congress of preparing to buy votes and engage in crowdfunding worth millions through this process.
Nominations for the positions of block president, district president, and assembly constituency president have already begun, while the process for the state president position will start on March 26 and continue for about a month.
Based on previous election data, candidates are aiming for a target of 500,000 to 600,000 votes. If calculated at ₹75 per vote, a candidate may need around ₹50 million. Even if all candidates average 300,000 to 400,000 votes, the Youth Congress could potentially raise between ₹180 million to ₹200 million.
Notably, in the last election, there was a contest for the state president position among Sudhindra Moond, Abhimanyu Poonia, and Yashveer Shura. After scrutiny, Abhimanyu Poonia was declared the winner following a reduction in votes.
Questions are also being raised about the election process itself. While Congress advocates for ballot papers in general elections, the Youth Congress is conducting its elections via an app. This has led to increased discussions about the transparency and fairness of the entire process.
