Price Stability Despite Global Volatility
India has maintained stable fuel prices for over a year, even as international crude oil markets have shown significant price volatility. The most recent excise duty revision by the government has not yet translated into higher retail fuel costs.
How Fuel Prices Are Determined
Fuel prices in India are revised daily at 6 AM based on global crude oil prices and foreign exchange rates. State taxes, central excise duty, VAT, and dealer commissions are added to the base price, making the final consumer price nearly double the crude value.
While this formula often leads to price variations, state-run oil companies have kept fuel rates steady, possibly to avoid burdening consumers amid inflationary pressures.
