Rajasthan Congress Criticizes Government for Limited Assembly Sessions

Jaipur, July 15: Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra has criticized the BJP government for the limited number of assembly sessions and insufficient discussion on public issues. He accused the Bhajanlal government of reducing the assembly to a mere formality, with ministers avoiding responses to questions from the public.

Dotasra shared statistics related to the assembly’s functioning on the social media platform ‘X’, stating that the current government has suppressed the voice of the people more than ever in Rajasthan’s 75-year history. He described this as a suppression of public issues, accountability, and democratic traditions.

84 Meetings in 5 Sessions and 573 Hours of Work Claimed
Dotasra noted that according to official data, only 5 sessions have been held in the current 16th Rajasthan Assembly. These sessions have resulted in a total of 84 meetings, with the assembly working for approximately 573 hours.

He claimed that this is among the weakest performances in the history of the Rajasthan Assembly. Dotasra emphasized that the low number of assembly meetings leaves legislators with insufficient time to raise issues pertinent to their constituencies and the public at large.

‘Public Voice Being Suppressed’
Dotasra stated, “In Rajasthan’s 75-year history, the public’s voice is being suppressed more than ever. The data speaks for itself. The level of suppression of public issues, accountability, and democratic traditions under the BJP’s Bhajanlal government has never been seen before.”

He alleged that the current government avoids discussions on public interest issues raised by the opposition in the assembly.

‘Platform for Discussion Continues to Shrink’
The Congress President remarked that the assembly is the most important constitutional platform for raising public questions and ensuring government accountability. However, under the current government, this platform’s scope is continuously narrowing.

He added, “The BJP government often appears to evade responses and discussions on public issues in the assembly. This government has reduced the public platform to a mere formality. This trend of undermining democracy is extremely concerning.”

Concerns Over Limited Assembly Meetings Raised Before
Concerns regarding the reduction in the number of meetings and working days of the Rajasthan Assembly have previously been expressed by political parties and senior legislators. The limited working days affect the time available for question hours, zero hours, discussions on bills, and topics related to public interest.

However, there has been no immediate official response from the state government or the BJP regarding Dotasra’s allegations and the statistics he presented. The government’s response will be included in future reports.
