New Delhi, February 27: The race for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 has become thrilling. With India’s victory over Zimbabwe, South Africa has secured its place in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, England has already qualified for the final four.
Two semi-final spots are filled, leaving two still open. Despite defeating Zimbabwe by 72 runs, India’s path is not straightforward. Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian team faces the West Indies in their final Super-8 match on Sunday, March 1.
To secure a spot in the semi-finals, India must win against the Caribbean team. The winner of the upcoming match between India and the West Indies will directly qualify for the semi-finals. South Africa has already qualified from Group A.
In Group B, England has clinched a semi-final spot with two consecutive victories. New Zealand has won one of its two matches, while its game against Pakistan was washed out due to rain.
New Zealand will face England in its final Super-8 match on February 27. If New Zealand manages to defeat England, they will easily secure a place in the final four. However, if they lose, their chances could diminish. The good news for New Zealand is that their net run rate (+3.050) is currently strong.
Pakistan, after two matches, has only one point. They will play Sri Lanka in their final Super-8 match on February 28. If Pakistan wins against Sri Lanka, they will accumulate three points. However, they will also need England to defeat New Zealand.
If Pakistan wins against Sri Lanka and New Zealand loses to England, the team with the better net run rate will claim the final semi-final spot.
