New Delhi, March 24, 2025 As March inches closer to its end, the skies over India are preparing to turn dramatic. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for 20 states, while Delhi-NCR and parts of North India are set to face an intense heatwave in the coming days. The dual forces of rain and rising temperatures are expected to reshape weather patterns and daily life for millions.

Storm Clouds Gather Over the East and South
States like Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka are bracing for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds. The IMD has sounded an orange alert, warning of winds reaching up to 50 kmph and cloudbursts in isolated areas.
A cyclonic circulation over East India and an active trough line from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu are fueling these intense systems. For millions living in vulnerable rural areas and agrarian belts, this sudden weather shift could mean disrupted harvests and delayed transport.
Delhi-NCR Turns Into a Hot Zone
While the east prepares for downpours, Delhi-NCR is heating up fast. The capital recorded a maximum temperature of 35°C, and the minimum hovered around 16°C—marking a steady rise that could intensify in the days ahead.
With no rain relief in sight, the IMD forecasts a further temperature surge, warning residents of early onset heat conditions, potentially touching 38–40°C by the end of March.
Northern Plains and Central India on Alert
States like Punjab and Haryana are also reporting above-normal temperatures. Bathinda reached 32.3°C, and Faridabad recorded 34.8°C, pushing daytime heat into uncomfortable territory for early spring.
The scorching conditions may not just challenge human endurance but also strain power supply, water availability, and crop conditions in the coming weeks. Residents are being urged to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
Rain Brings Both Relief and Risk in Bihar and Chhattisgarh
Rain and thunderstorms are expected in several districts of Bihar, including Patna, where overcast skies and scattered showers already marked a shift in mood. In Chhattisgarh, Raipur, Bilaspur, and Surguja are on the radar for intense weather, with the IMD issuing alerts for heavy rainfall and hailstorms.
For farmers, this unpredictable weather comes as both a relief and a worry—good for rabi crops in some regions, but threatening for those nearing harvest.
IMD’s Appeal to the Public: Stay Informed, Stay Safe
The IMD has urged citizens to remain vigilant, especially in states facing adverse conditions. People living in low-lying or storm-prone areas are advised to monitor weather updates, secure homes and essentials, and avoid unnecessary travel during alerts.
This weather turbulence reminds us of nature’s fragile balance—while one part of the country seeks shelter from storms, another sweats under an intensifying sun.
