Rising Dissent in Rajasthan Congress: Calls for Change in Leadership

Jaipur, July 18: The political tug-of-war between Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wading and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is now impacting the Rajasthan Congress. Concerns have been raised regarding the leadership style of Sukjinder Singh Randhawa, the in-charge of Rajasthan Congress. Some party leaders claim they have escalated their grievances to Delhi.

Sources within the party suggest that a change in the Rajasthan Congress leadership is being considered. However, the All India Congress Committee has yet to make any official announcement regarding this matter.

Former minister Pawan Godara and several Congress leaders have questioned Randhawa’s engagement and organizational communication. They argue that Randhawa has been in charge for nearly two and a half years, yet many prominent party workers are still waiting for direct communication and guidance from him.

Godara has inquired about when a comprehensive tour of Rajasthan’s districts will take place and when direct dialogue with workers will be established. He emphasized that many district workers have long sought opportunities to meet with the in-charge for organizational discussions.

Discussions about a potential change in Randhawa’s position are intensifying within the Congress. Sources indicate that a decision regarding the in-charge role may be made in the next phase of organizational restructuring.

However, the party leadership has neither confirmed Randhawa’s removal nor announced a potential successor, leading to speculation about ongoing political discussions within the organization.

Additionally, significant organizational changes are reportedly in the works within the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. According to party sources, PCC President Govind Singh Dotasra has submitted a list of approximately 55 officials slated for replacement to the AICC leadership in Delhi.

It is expected that formal orders will be issued following approval from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Organization General Secretary K.C. Venugopal. After changes at the state committee level, further adjustments are anticipated at the district, block, and other lower organizational tiers.

The dissent against Randhawa in Rajasthan is also being linked to factionalism within the Punjab Congress. Political circles speculate that supporters of Amarinder Singh Raja Wading may play a role in this unrest.

Sources indicate that when Pawan Godara served as the President of the Rajasthan Youth Congress in 2009-10, Amarinder Singh Raja Wading was the in-charge of the Rajasthan Youth Congress. This historical connection is believed to influence the ties of many young leaders in Rajasthan Congress with Wading.

Godara has dismissed allegations of factionalism, asserting that he is not acting on behalf of any group but rather voicing the sentiments of the workers.

He stated that he is a disciplined worker of the Congress party, aiming to strengthen the organization. According to Godara, many district workers have not had direct communication with the in-charge for an extended period, prompting the need to raise this issue.

Now, Congress workers are closely watching the decisions of the AICC leadership. The proposed changes in the Rajasthan in-charge position and PCC officials are being viewed in light of upcoming electoral strategies and organizational activity.

There is also a belief within the party that through extensive restructuring, inactive officials may be replaced with active leaders and workers. The final situation will only become clear once official orders are issued.
