
Udaipur, March 23: A meeting regarding the Victim Compensation Scheme was conducted under the auspices of the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority in Jaipur. The session was chaired by District Legal Services Authority President and District and Sessions Judge Gyanprakash Gupta. Notable attendees included Judge Bhavani Shankar Pandya from M.A.C.T. No. 2, Labor Court Judge Amit Sahalot, Family Court Judge Palvinder Singh, Chief Judicial Magistrate Ambika Solanki, Additional Superintendent of Police Lakhmanray, Public Prosecutor Ramkripa Sharma, and Bar Association President Jitendra Jain.
The Secretary of the Authority, ADJ Kuldeep Sharma, reported that 15 cases were resolved during the meeting, resulting in awards totaling ₹28,70,000 for victims and their dependents. Separate amounts were sanctioned to provide financial security for the victims’ families, which will be deposited into their savings accounts and converted into Fixed Deposits (FDs). Compensation is awarded to victims and their dependents in cases of rape, murder, and POCSO offenses.
An additional meeting of the Undertrial Review Committee was also held under the chairmanship of District and Sessions Judge Gyanprakash Gupta. This meeting reviewed cases pending in court where the accused have already served half of the maximum sentence.
Furthermore, under the direction of District Legal Services Authority President and District and Sessions Judge Gyanprakash Gupta, Secretary ADJ Kuldeep Sharma inspected the Central Jail in Udaipur. During the inspection, information was gathered regarding the medical care, food, tea, and snacks provided to inmates. The inmates were also informed about free legal aid, appeals, and parole options. The Udaipur District Legal Services Authority provided details about legal representation services under the Legal Aid Defense Council Scheme.
ADJ Sharma also inspected the government-run old age home, Tara Institute in Bali Cha, where information was shared about the rights of the elderly, senior modules, free legal assistance, and the NALSA portal, including the NALSA helpline 15100.
